Robert Carroll


Robert Carroll has been the Agriculture Education Instructor at Davenport for the past 32 ½ years, and has been teaching for a total 38 years. Growing up in Stroud, Oklahoma, he attended Northen Oklahoma College and Oklahoma State University following high school.

Q  What led you to teaching?
My high school FFA experience

 

Was there anyone who influenced your decision to become an educator? 
A  Willard Collier, Ag Instructor, Stroud 1950-1984

 

Q  What would you say most motivates you to teach?
A  Opportunities in agriculture, watching students grow and succeed.

 

What are you most excited or passionate about?  
A  Working with students and developing their leadership abilities. Students learning about Agriculture and taking advantage of leadership opportunities. Anything OSU.

 

Q  What do you find most challenging about being a teacher?
A  Managing time

 

Q  What's the best thing to happen since you started teaching? 
A  A son, grandsons, working with other DPS teachers, interacting with other ag teachers, FFA state championships, FFA state champion individuals, and seeing former students change the world for good. Support from our community.

 

Q  What might parents and students be surprised to learn about you?
A  I was in a greek fraternity at OSU.  My wife has a twin sister.

 

Q  What profession other than your own would you most like to attempt? 
A  Auctioneer

 

What are three things every teacher should own?
Fishing Pole, RV, and patience.

 

Robert and his wife Danette were both raised in Stroud.  They have one son (Ryan) and daughter in law (Alexis) and two grandsons who live in Joplin. Ryan works on a wind turbine farm. Robert’s mom still lives in Stroud. He lost his dad last year, he had a farm in Drumright, and Robert has cows there.  He had a sister and brother in law (Robert & Rhonda Juarez) who live in Davenport. She works at Sac and Fox Agency. He has a nephew who lives in Stroud (Dustin), and works for Acord Transportation; and a neice (Jennifer Juarez Shope) who lives in Sand Springs, where she is a dental assistant in Tulsa. Robert has another sister (Randi Lott) who lives in Sand Springs. She works at the Tulsa Housing Authority, her son (Ty) graduated from Tulsa U, and works in Austin, Texas.  Robert says they have dear friends near Grand Lake. They love going to see their grandkids and going to the lake.
